Fishing

Diamond Key Lodge is at the mouth of the Key River, in the French River Delta. Walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and muskie roam these waters.

Accommodations

Diamond Key Lodge has six housekeeping cottages from 1 to 3 bedrooms. They are modern with your standard conveniences provided. All cabins have a view of the Georgian Bay.

They are upgrading a number of their boats from wooden boats to nice Lunds. I would prefer the Lunds but some people like the nostalgia of a good wooden fishing boat. Whichever you prefer, Diamond Key Lodge will hook you up.

Packages and Rates

They offer Housekeeping Plan and Modified American Plan packages. They have several pricing options but their standard parckage is $645 per week per person which includes lodging, boat and motor rental and gas.

Shangri-La Lodge and Marina, in Southeast Ontario, provides a great bargain on Whitefish Lake on the Rideau canal. Their American Plan package rates are as good as it gets. They make my list as I have friends that stay here every year and absolutely love this place.

Fishing

Whitefish Lake and the Rideau is well known for its largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike, perch, crappy, lake trout and splake fishing. Whitefish Lake connects with Little Cranberry, Cranberry and Dog Lake without travelling through any of the lock stations.

Packages and Rates

Shangri-La Lodge only offers full service American Plan rates. The 2009 rate was $525 US per person per week. The 2010 rate is not currently posted on their site. Folks, it doesn’t get much better than that for value.

Boat rentals are additional. They have 2 types of 14′ fishing boats and 20′ pontoon boats. This may be one of the few drawbacks of this place, in my opinion. I like to fish out of a 16′ boat for the extra room when fishing with a couple of kids and my dad. But if you have your own boat or are only fishing two people, this shouldn’t be a problem at all.

If you are looking for an economical fishing trip right across the border in Southeast Ontario, there is little reason to look further than Spencer’s Riverfront Cottages on the St. Lawrence River. Spencer’s offers economical Housekeeping Plan packages and boat rentals.

Fishing

Fish species on the St. Lawrence include northern pike, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, walleye, perch, bullhead catfish, channel catfish, eel and muskie. You can find places to fish for trout, lake trout and salmon in the area.

Accommodations

Cottages are 1 to 3 bedrooms. They have all the standard houskeeping ammenities plus cable tv and wireless internet. Three bedroom cottages have private boat docks while others cottages share a boat dock.

Boat rentals include bass type and pontoon boats.

Packages and Rates

Spencer’s Riverfront Cottages has Housekeeping Plan packages. The one week rate for a 2 bedroom during the summer season is $650 and $550 during the spring and fall. Other rates vary by size of cabin.

Their bass type boat rental is $700 per week. This includes one tank of free gas. They do offer some discounts when renting a cottage and boat together.

Stirling Lodge is an American Plan resort sitting on Newboro Lake, which is part of the Rideau chain of lakes in Southeast Ontario. You can chase largemouth and smallmouth bass here to your heart’s delight.

Fishing

Stirling Lodge sits on Newboro Lake which is part of the Rideau chain of lakes. You have access to a number of other lakes and even more lakes by traveling through the lock system.

This part of the Rideau is stuffed with largemouth bass. Smallmouth bass and northern pike are also plentiful. One word about the pike fishing is that this is not a trophy area. Pike in the 10lb+ range just aren’t there in the numbers that you’ll find them in other places of Ontario. But the bass fishing more than makes up for this. And you’ll still catch plenty of fiesty pike.

Panfish are also plentiful which makes this an ideal place to take children. Some walleye fishing is available in a lake accessible by going through a lock.

They have nice boat options including 14′ fishing boats, 17′ bass boats and pontoon boats.

All packages are American Plan with 3 meals per day. Rates vary from $94 to $122 per day depending on type of lodging. Children rates are offered at Stirling Lodge.
