Located near Foleyet in Northeast Ontario, Air Ivanhoe fly-in fishing trip operations has some great fishing opportunties. They can be reached by calling 800-955-2951. Everything you need from flight instructions (don’t touch the propeller!) to a detailed list of fishing tackle is on their site. I recieved a very informative email from Joel Theirault from Air Ivanhoe. Here is what he had to say…

(AIL) was created in 1980. In 1981, Joel Theriault was born, as a third generation tourism outfitter carrying on the Theriault tradition of providing high quality remote based tourism experiences in Northern Ontario. We did a fly in trip at Shawmere Lake with Air Ivanhoe in the first week of August 2009. We came the night before and stayed at their motel across the road, it was really nice with large timber posts and beams and had a small kitchen. They also have rooms in the main building on the lake which they rent out as well. The owners son flew us out in the morning and gave us a small tour of the lake on the way there. It was the only cabin on the lake the cabin was clean and there was plenty of room but a sofa would have been nice, just kitchen chairs and the beds. But we fished all day anyway so most of the sitting was in the boat and the boat chairs were comfortable. The first couple days we were catching fish like crazy and throughing them back of course figuring it would be like this all week and didn’t want to get our limit the first day. The weather changed for the next few days but we still managed to get some fish but really had to work for them. Once the weather cleared up they were bitting like crazy again, pickerel after pickerel, I even caught a pike with a pickerel in it’s grasp sideways. It is posted on my facebook group “born to fish” check it out and join if you like to upload your photos (there are a bunch there from Shawmere) http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=75691199868

I had a great time with Air Ivanhoe they ran a nice clean business very friendly help and cabins were top notch and clean.
I would go with them again – they have a bunch of lakes to choose from. At Shawmewre we caught Pearch, Pickerel biggest 24″a bunch 20 to 22 and hundreds of small ones, Pike biggest was only 32″ lots around 24″. Trolling, casting the shoreline and jigging at the inlet and outlet. Boat into the Butterfly looking lake off the peak of the island and left side by the shore drop off – Big Pickerel – lots!! drag big jig on bottom, or just off bottom. Good Fishing!

Got up to Air Ivanhoe, met the owner and had a few drinks with him, we left mid week as we extended our trip a few days longer. Joel was a great help with tips and location on where to find fish..they keep a book with all the lake maps that previos visitors had left behind so you can get a general idea of where to find fish right away. This is a huge advantage esp. when fishing new waters. cabin was clean, everything worked great, flight was smooth(also included in a mid week flight check where they will take your fish back to thelodge and put them in a the big freezer also they make sure that everything is running smooth)there was plenty of gas, motored worked great, dry wood inside cabin) we had horrible weather but still managed over 400 fish, should have been more but we had several cold fronts move in the time we were there. lots of wildlife and in complete seclusion.( we fished Shawmere lake in early aug of 09) simple techniques worked best, leave most of your gear at home and save on wieght. One problem I did have is that we hit a rock twice with the motor and figured that it should have been marked with something. air ivanhoe also has a good forum that you can find on there website really helped me plan my trip. the pilots, owners and staff were all really helpful and friendly. we also rented a cabin the nite we got there and it was beautiful well worth the price. if you have any more questions esp in regards to shawmere and where and how o fish fel free to contact me at solidground_rmt@hotmail.com

As a young boy my dad many times told me about a trip to Lemoine Lake with Air Ivanhoe as the outfitter. He was the ultimate fisherman and would always mention the fastest walleye fishing he ever saw was at Lemoine Lake. Little did I know that someday I would find that out for myself. My fellow workers and I booked a trip to Lemoine Lake on June,2009. It exactly 50 years to the week since my dad had been there. We were not disappointed! The walleye and pike fishing was superb. Although no trophy fish were taken, pike and walleye were found all over the lake. Most walleye were about 15-18 inches. most pike were 20-30 inches with one 41incher. There are 2 lakes to walk to. Both were overpopulated with pike as 2 of us caught 70 pike in 21/2 hours. What a blast! We had 2 eagles with 2 offspring at camp everyday. We saw 9 bears and 3 moose. The cabin was clean and comfortable and the boats and motors were all in excellent condition. Great job Theriault Family!
