Winefred Lake Alberta Fishing Trip Information

Winefred Lake is a large lake in north-eastern Alberta, Canada. It is located in a remote area between Cold Lake and Fort McMurray.  The lake has approximately 31,000 surface acres.  The Winefred Lake Indian Reserve is located on the most northerly shoreline. The lake’s main inflows are the Grist and Sand rivers and the main outflow is the Winefred River, which flows into the Christina River and then to the Athabasca River.  The closest town Conklin is almost 45 miles away.  So if you want to get away, this is the place.

Winefred Lake Fish Species

  • Walleye
  • Northern Pike
  • Whitefish

Winefred Lake Fishing Reports

Not much to report here but I did find a post at IceShanty.com Forum by BushBunny.

If you want to hit Winefred, it is pretty much hit & miss for walleye, but pike is usually decent.  White cliff, sunken reef on the west side, Julian’s point, Banana Island are all pretty good bets…

Wayne has several pictures on his home page from a fishing trip to Winefred Lake Lodge in August, 2000.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like their fishing results were too impressive.

In August of 2000, a group of the guys went fishin’!  We drove up to Athabasca, Alberta on a Thursday night to camp. Then headed out Friday morning to Winefred Lake Lodge. It was an interesting trip, not too many fish caught, but we played a lot of cards, and the hot tub was great!

Neil Waugh from Edmonton Sun had a fun trip at Winefred Lake Lodge.

The post by BushBunny also has his opinion on Winefred Lodge.

If you have never been to Winefred Lake Lodge, check it out on the internet.  Quite a place, with superior hospitality.

I also found a guest review of the Lodge at Stay Canada.  They liked the fishing but had a few issues with the service.  Doesn’t seem like anything major to me, but I only report what I find on the web and then let you be the judge.

Winefred Lake Maps

Omni Resources has a 1:250,000 topographical map.  Map Town also has a Winefred Lake map.
